Introducing Copilot for Microsoft 365
Microsoft recently unveiled Copilot for Microsoft 365, an intuitive AI companion rooted in your data and integrated into your Microsoft 365 apps. After successful early-access testing at major companies, it is now available to everyone and promises to change the way you work forever.
What is Copilot for Microsoft 365?
Copilot for Microsoft 365 actively enhances productivity within the suite of Microsoft 365 apps like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, and more to boost productivity, save time, and make work easier for every user. It leverages your data to learn your work patterns and provides personalised, context-aware support. Unlike other AI models, such as GPT-4 and the free version of Copilot, that solely rely on web searches, Copilot for Microsoft 365 has access to your company files and understands your role.
Copilot for Microsoft 365 learns about you, what your role is, and what your company does. It then uses this context to streamline workflows and provide smart support that helps automate time-consuming tasks. For example, you can ask it to summarise the emails you missed while on annual leave, turn a Word document into a PowerPoint presentation, or even quickly find an internal file on SharePoint.
What Microsoft 365 apps are compatible with Copilot?
It works across all the Microsoft 365 apps, including:
- Outlook
- Word
- PowerPoint
- Excel
- OneNote
- SharePoint
- Teams
- Chat
What can it do?
The possibilities are seemingly limitless, from turning Word documents into PowerPoint presentations, generating transcripts from meetings you missed, summarising calls and highlighting points of action, to sorting data in Excel, locating files anywhere in your Microsoft environment, drafting content and answering quick-fire questions about data and files.
Copilot for Microsoft 365 is designed to be intuitive and help you:

How does it work?
It combines your business data that is stored in Microsoft Graph with the power of large language models (LLMs) to provide answers that are grounded in work data. Copilot uses this data to ask the LLM to structure an answer, and it will also scour the internet with data. This means it can make intuitive decisions with the benefit of context, as sought from open-ended prompts.
